The Maryland Office of the Comptroller announced that the state collected $26.2 million in cannabis sales tax revenue between January and March 2026.
Adult-use cannabis sales are subject to a 12% sales and use tax, which increased from 9% on July 1, 2025. The Central Region, which includes Baltimore and surrounding counties, generated the most revenue during the quarter at $10.7 million, followed by the Capital Region, which includes Montgomery County, at $6.2 million.
Revenue from cannabis sales is distributed among several state programs and funds, including the Maryland General Fund, the Maryland Cannabis Administration, the Department of Social and Economic Mobility, the Community Reinvestment and Repair Fund, county governments, the Cannabis Public Health Fund and the Cannabis Business Assistance Fund. The quarterly report shows more than $7.4 million was allocated to the Maryland Cannabis Administration, while more than $5.3 million went to the Department of Social and Economic Mobility.
