A 66-year-old Potomac woman died Saturday after the e-bike she was riding was struck by a pickup truck driver in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, according to Delaware State Police.
The crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. on June 20 along southbound Coastal Highway north of Savages Ditch Road. Investigators said the woman was riding an e-bike in the designated bicycle lane when, for reasons still under investigation, she left the bike lane and entered the southbound travel lanes, where she was struck by a GMC Sierra 2500 traveling in the left lane.
The Potomac woman was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Authorities have not yet released her identity pending notification of family members.
The driver of the GMC, a 64-year-old man from Perryville, Maryland, was not injured.
Southbound Coastal Highway was closed for approximately two hours while Delaware State Police investigated the scene and cleared the roadway.
