Montgomery County Airpark was the intended destination of a small plane that crashed in Prince George’s County late Saturday night, killing all three people on board, according to Maryland State Police.
The victims have been identified as pilot Yoav Bomrind, 26, of Israel, and passengers David Rabinovitz, 19, of Israel, and Elad Naidik, 20, of Canada. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
The single-engine Piper Cherokee was traveling from Ocean City, New Jersey, to Montgomery County Airpark when it crashed in a wooded area near Scarlett Oak Court in Bowie at approximately 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Authorities said an iPhone crash alert was received around 11:45 p.m., triggering a large-scale search involving multiple law enforcement and fire agencies. The wreckage was located around 3:45 a.m. Sunday in a wooded area near a residential neighborhood.
Investigators previously said the aircraft is believed to belong to a Montgomery County flight school and may have been conducting a training flight. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration and Maryland State Police.
