The Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) announced that free Lyft rides will be available across Montgomery County and the Washington region during Independence Day celebrations as part of its annual SoberRide program.
The service will run from 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, through 4 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, providing rides valued at up to $15 for adults 21 and older who have been drinking.
To participate, riders must download the Lyft app and enter the SoberRide promotional code under the “Add Lyft Pass” option in the app’s Payment tab. The code will be posted at 3 p.m. on July 4 at SoberRide.com. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 40% of U.S. traffic fatalities during the Independence Day holiday period involve impaired drivers.
Since 1991, WRAP’s SoberRide program has provided more than 103,000 free rides to would-be impaired drivers throughout the Washington metropolitan area. The program is available throughout Lyft’s local service area, including Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, the District of Columbia, and parts of Northern Virginia.
