Maryland Launches 2026 SUN Bucks Program to Help Feed Children During Summer

Governor Wes Moore announced the launch of Maryland’s 2026 Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (SEBT) program, known as Maryland SUN Bucks, which provides food assistance to eligible children during the summer months when school is out of session.

The program, which runs from June through August, builds on last year’s initiative that provided $75 million in benefits to more than 630,000 students statewide. Eligible families will receive $40 per child each month, totaling $120 per student over the summer. Most eligible families will be automatically enrolled through existing programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Cash Assistance, Medicaid, the Free and Reduced-Price School Meals program and out-of-home care programs.

State officials said the program is intended to help address childhood hunger and food insecurity during the summer months. Families whose children are not automatically enrolled but may qualify can apply online through the Maryland Department of Human Services.
