Maryland to Receive More Than 2 Million Eggs After Price-Fixing Settlement

Maryland will receive more than 2 million eggs and over $120,000 as part of a nationwide settlement with three major egg producers accused of coordinating to artificially inflate egg prices, Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced.

The settlement with Cal-Maine Foods, Versova/Centrum and Hickman’s Egg Ranch stems from a multistate investigation that found the companies coordinated to influence benchmark egg prices between 2022 and 2025, resulting in higher prices for retailers and consumers nationwide.

As part of the agreement, the companies will provide 53 million eggs to food banks and community organizations across participating states, with more than 2 million of those eggs designated for Maryland. The companies also agreed to end the alleged anti-competitive practices and implement compliance measures to prevent future violations.
