Montgomery College is expanding partnerships with Hughes Network Systems and EchoStar to prepare students for careers in the rapidly growing commercial space and satellite communications industry.
Through the Pinkney Innovation Complex for Science and Technology (PIC MC) in Germantown, students are gaining hands-on experience in fields including advanced manufacturing, engineering and satellite communications. The initiative builds on Hughes’ EXM manufacturing facility, which opened on Montgomery College’s Germantown campus in 2025 as the nation’s first active manufacturing facility located on a community college campus.
College officials say the partnerships are helping connect students with internships, applied learning opportunities and employers as demand continues to grow for workers in satellite technology, aerospace, advanced manufacturing and other high-tech industries.
