Montgomery County’s Department of Environmental Protection is inviting residents to repair, rather than replace, broken household items during a free Fix-It Clinic on Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Gaithersburg Library. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 18330 Montgomery Village Ave. and will pair participants with volunteer fixers who provide hands-on guidance for repairing everyday items.
Residents can bring up to two items, including electronics, small appliances, bicycles, clothing, jewelry and household items. Knife sharpening will also be available on a walk-in basis, limited to two knives per person. Advance registration is required for repair appointments, and organizers say the event is designed to help reduce waste while teaching practical repair skills.
The clinic will also feature a family-friendly “tinker table,” where visitors can take apart household items and explore how they work using basic tools provided by organizers. Safety-related items, large appliances, hazardous materials, firearms and certain high-voltage electronics will not be accepted for repair.
