Montgomery County Councilmember At-Large Laurie-Anne Sayles was reappointed to the National Association of Counties (NACo) Board of Directors during the organization’s 2026 Annual Conference, where she also advanced three national policy resolutions and participated as a featured speaker on public health and housing affordability.
According to NACo, Sayles was reappointed by incoming President George Dunlap, a commissioner from Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The organization represents more than 3,000 counties, parishes and boroughs across the United States and advocates on federal policies affecting local governments.
During the conference, NACo members approved three resolutions introduced by Sayles supporting flexible federal investments in community-based public safety initiatives, expanded maternal healthcare and rural healthcare resources, and federal incentives to increase housing through accessory dwelling units and other housing options while preserving local decision-making.
Sayles also participated in breakout sessions highlighting Montgomery County’s public health partnerships, preventive care initiatives, zoning modernization efforts and strategies to improve housing affordability. “I am honored to continue representing Montgomery County’s more than 1.1 million residents on the NACo Board of Directors,” Sayles said. “NACo demonstrates that local leaders can work across political differences to find common ground and deliver practical solutions.”
