Montgomery County Police have identified the driver killed in a fatal rollover crash last week in Silver Spring as 35-year-old Moussa Diarra of Springdale.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:53 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, when 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded to the intersection of University Boulevard East and Colesville Road for a reported collision.
According to the preliminary investigation, a white 2013 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound on University Boulevard East when, for reasons that remain under investigation, it struck a guardrail, curb, two trees and a utility pole along the left side of the roadway. The pickup truck then overturned and crashed into the rear of a white Acura RDX and a white Ford Escape that were stopped at a red light at the intersection.
Diarra, the driver of the Chevrolet, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the pickup was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The drivers of the Acura and Ford were not injured.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the crash, a process police say could take several weeks to months to complete. Anyone with information is asked to contact the unit at 240-773-6620.
