Maman Bakery to Open in Former Buca di Beppo Space in Gaithersburg

Maman, the French-inspired café and bakery, is planning to open in the former Buca di Beppo space at 112 Kentlands Blvd. in Gaithersburg’s Kentlands Market Square. The space had previously been slated for Tatte Bakery & Cafe before those plans changed earlier this year.

Mattress Warehouse is still expected to occupy approximately half of the former Buca di Beppo building, with Maman taking the remaining portion. Construction has been underway at the site.

Maman began in New York City with its first café in SoHo, founded by Elisa Marshall and Benjamin Sormonte as a grab-and-go café designed to feel like a “home away from home.” The brand expanded throughout New York and later into other markets, earning national attention when its nutty chocolate chip cookie was featured on Oprah’s Favorite Things list in 2017.

The company made its first U.S. expansion outside New York in June 2022 when it opened at 7140 Bethesda Ln in Bethesda. Maman has continued expanding throughout the DMV, including locations in Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia. By November 2025, the company had opened its 50th location, in Dallas.

Maman’s menu features French-inspired pastries, cookies and café drinks, including croissants, kouign maman, loaf cakes, scones and beignets, along with vegan and gluten-free options. The café is particularly known for its nutty chocolate chip cookie and also serves espresso drinks, lattes, matcha, chai and a rotating selection of specialty beverages.
