A Powerball jackpot that had been growing for more than three months was won Wednesday night, with a ticket sold in Illinois matching all six numbers to claim a $1.04 billion prize.
Maryland also had a big winner in the Aug. 12 drawing, with a $50,000 winning ticket sold at Discount Tobacco Zone in Temple Hills.
Ticket sales pushed the final jackpot to an annuity value of $1.040 billion, the eighth-largest jackpot in Powerball history, with a cash option of $450.5 million. The winning numbers were 4, 26, 66, 67 and 69, with a Powerball of 9.
Three $1 million Powerball tickets were sold in Maryland during the run. A ticket from the July 29 drawing was claimed by an anonymous Bowie State University graduate who nicknamed himself “Powerball Bulldog.” Two other $1 million prizes remain unclaimed, including a ticket sold at Harvest Fare Supermarket in Fallston for the Aug. 10 drawing and another sold at a 7-Eleven on Rhode Island Avenue in College Park for the Aug. 1 drawing.
According to MD Lottery, Powerball sales in Maryland totaled more than $39.4 million from May 3 through Aug. 12. Those sales generated more than $2.2 million in commissions for Maryland Lottery retailers and an estimated $9.8 million for state programs and services.
During Fiscal Year 2026, Powerball accounted for approximately 6% of Maryland Lottery sales, generating $161.7 million of the Lottery’s $2.676 billion in total sales.
