Montgomery County has awarded $750,000 to six partnerships aimed at expanding access to nutritious, locally produced foods for residents experiencing food insecurity and diet-related health conditions.
Participating healthcare providers will screen patients and refer eligible households for four to six months of medically tailored food assistance and nutrition education. The program is expected to serve at least 450 County households.
The six funded organizations are Adventist HealthCare, AfriThrive, Holy Cross Health, Korean Community Service Center of Greater Washington, Mansfield Kaseman Health Clinic and Mobile Medical Care. Partners include Manna Food Center, Community FarmShare, Mary’s Center, One Acre Farm, Giant Food and Lotte Plaza Market.
During fiscal year 2025, participating organizations purchased and distributed at least 122,831 pounds of locally grown produce through the program. This year’s partnerships will continue prioritizing food sourced from Montgomery County farms.
