Traffic Alert: Gas Leak Closes Woodmont Avenue, Possible Carbon Monoxide Exposure Reported

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the 8300 block of Woodmont Avenue in Bethesda Thursday afternoon for a report of an odor of gas and people feeling sick inside a building.

Crews arrived at the Wells Fargo bank at 8302 Woodmont Avenue and detected high carbon monoxide readings inside the bank as well as the attached seven-story residential high-rise building.

According to Montgomery County Police, a gas leak has Woodmont Avenue closed at Wisconsin Avenue. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route and expect significant delays.

MCFRS is investigating the incident. Information on the number of people experiencing symptoms or whether anyone has been transported to a hospital was not immediately available.
