Flagship Car Wash is no longer pursuing plans to build a new location on a vacant property next to Lidl in Montgomery Village.
According to Montgomery Village News, on August 19, Montgomery Village Foundation (MVF) management was notified that Spotless Brands, the company behind Flagship Car Wash, had decided not to move forward with the purchase of the property at the intersection of Montgomery Village Avenue and Centerway Road. The vacant property is known as “Lot 37.”
The decision follows months of opposition to the proposal. After the July MVF Board meeting, management sent Spotless Brands a letter opposing the proposed car wash development on behalf of the MVF Board of Directors. MVF management is now seeking feedback from the Board regarding potential next steps and whether other options for the property should be pursued.
Spotless Brands had proposed investing approximately $10 million, excluding real estate costs, to construct a roughly 12,000-square-foot Flagship Car Wash. Plans included a 110-foot automated wash tunnel, two 80-foot dry/detail belts, 14 vacuum spaces and three pay lanes. The company anticipated employing about 50 people.
Representatives for the project presented the concept to approximately 100 residents on March 23. Residents raised concerns about traffic, noise, vehicle backups, nearby school traffic and whether a car wash was an appropriate use for the property. Several attendees said they did not believe the proposed development was the right fit for the community.
