A&J Restaurant, the longtime Chinese restaurant at 1319 Rockville Pike in Rockville, has been named one of “The Best Cheap Eats Around the DC Area” by Washingtonian.
The recently published list highlights 60 restaurants where diners can get what Washingtonian describes as a satisfying meal for less than $25 per person, excluding drinks, tax and tip. More than 200 restaurants throughout the region were considered for the list.
Washingtonian highlighted A&J’s Taiwanese-style beef noodle soup and pot stickers, while also pointing to several other longtime menu favorites. Among those mentioned were braised pork over rice, thousand-layer pancake, bean-curd skin with mustard greens and soybeans, tofu with peanuts and cilantro, and cold noodles with the restaurant’s special hot-and-sour sauce. Washingtonian noted that most of the featured dishes cost less than $8.
A&J has served Northern Chinese fare on Rockville Pike for more than 25 years. The restaurant is part of a family-owned business that traces its roots to Taipei, where Alex Chang opened the original location in the 1970s. The concept was later brought to Los Angeles before Chang’s niece, Elaine Tang, and her family opened the Rockville restaurant in 1996.
A&J also operates a location in Annandale, Virginia.
