Guapo’s GO has begun its soft opening at 12211 Darnestown Road across from Quince Orchard High School in Gaithersburg, taking over the former California Tortilla space, which closed in late 2025. A first-look video is available below.
Operated by the family behind the longtime local Guapo’s Restaurant group, Guapo’s GO is a fast-casual concept centered around 24-hour-marinated charcoal chicken. The menu also includes birria, crispy and street tacos, customizable burritos and bowls, pupusas, enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, chaufa rice, chicken and steak-and-cheese sandwiches, and the Guapo’s GO Smashburger. Sides include rice and beans, plantains, yuca, mac and cheese and steak fries. Family platters and a children’s menu are also available.
The Gaithersburg restaurant is Guapo’s GO’s first Maryland location, joining restaurants in Herndon, Manassas Park and Woodbridge, Virginia. The concept may feel familiar to longtime residents as Guapo’s operated a similar fast-casual restaurant at 411 N. Frederick Road from December 2010 until 2017. Ixtapalapa Taqueria later took over the space.
