The Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC) has named Dr. Stefanie Trop as its new Vice President of Economic Competitiveness, a newly created position focused on expanding the organization’s research and business intelligence capabilities.
In the role, Trop will lead the collection and analysis of economic and market data to help MCEDC identify growth opportunities, anticipate economic challenges and develop strategies based on changing business and workforce needs.
Trop joins MCEDC from the Maryland Department of Commerce, where she served as Director of Life Sciences. During her tenure, she led the Maryland Life Sciences Advisory Board, co-founded the Maryland MedTech Summit and worked with businesses, universities, government agencies and investors to strengthen the state’s life sciences industry.
“To compete for businesses, investment, and jobs, we need to understand where the economy is going,” MCEDC President and CEO Jared Smith said. “Stefanie brings a rare combination of analytical expertise, industry experience, and deep knowledge of Maryland’s business ecosystem.”
Trop previously worked at Beckman Coulter Life Sciences and holds a Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She will begin her new role September 9.
