A Maryland grocery store sold a $1 million winning scratch-off ticket to a Delaware couple who regularly travel across the state line to play the Maryland Lottery.
According to MD Lottery, the couple, using the names “Mr. and Mrs. Spry,” purchased the winning $20 100X the Cash ticket at Walkers Grocery Store, located at 18230 Henderson Road in Marydel, near the Maryland-Delaware state line.
“Mr. Spry” discovered a 100X symbol with a $10,000 prize underneath, resulting in the game’s $1 million top prize.
“I was stunned. It was the shock of my life,” he said.
The couple previously lived in Maryland and told Lottery officials they frequently return to the state to purchase tickets on Fridays. Mr. Spry, a Maryland Eastern Shore native and avid angler, said he plans to use some of the winnings to start a business.
Walkers Grocery Store at 18230 Henderson Rd in Marydel will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. The 100X the Cash game launched in January with seven $1 million top prizes. Following the couple’s win, one $1 million prize remains unclaimed.
