Maryland Gov. Wes Moore issued a statement following a Maryland Supreme Court ruling that reversed lower court decisions and cleared the way for a proposed constitutional amendment to appear on the November general election ballot.
The amendment, which will appear as Question 3, concerns how Maryland draws its maps. Moore described the ruling as a victory for voters and said Marylanders should have the final say on the proposal.
“Today’s ruling by the Supreme Court of Maryland is a massive victory for the people of our state and a powerful defense of our democratic process,” Moore said. “The Court has rightfully reversed the lower court decisions, guaranteeing that this critical constitutional amendment will appear on the general election ballot this November.”
Moore also tied the issue to redistricting efforts taking place elsewhere in the country, accusing President Donald Trump and Republicans of attempting to weaken voting rights and use mid-decade redistricting for political advantage.
The governor said he plans to campaign in support of the amendment ahead of the November election and urged Maryland voters to vote “YES” on Question 3.
“This ruling keeps the power where it belongs: with the voters,” Moore said. “I look forward to taking this case directly to the people and campaigning vigorously for a strong YES vote on Question 3 this November.”
