Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the Streamside Apartments at 422 N. Summit Avenue in Gaithersburg on Saturday morning for a carbon monoxide incident that resulted in 12 people being transported to area hospitals.
According to MCFRS spokesperson David Pazos, more than 50 residents from three adjoining buildings were evaluated. A total of 12 people, including four adults and seven children, were transported to area hospitals. One child was transported in stable condition to Baltimore Shock Trauma for potential treatment in a hyperbaric chamber.
Washington Gas responded to investigate the source of the carbon monoxide and determined that an oven inside the building at 422 N. Summit Avenue was the source. The oven was removed from the building.
MCFRS crews have begun clearing the scene, and residents have been permitted to return to their homes. Building management remains on scene.
