Mandalay Restaurant & Café, a longtime Burmese restaurant in Silver Spring, has been named one of “The Best Cheap Eats Around the DC Area” by Washingtonian.
The recently published list highlights 60 restaurants where diners can get what Washingtonian describes as a satisfying meal for less than $25 per person, excluding drinks, tax and tip. More than 200 restaurants throughout the region were considered for the list.
Located at 930 Bonifant Street, Mandalay is known for its extensive selection of traditional Burmese dishes, with seafood, pork, beef, poultry and vegetarian options alongside noodles, rice dishes, soups and appetizers.
Washingtonian particularly highlighted Mandalay’s salads, including its fermented tea leaf salad with cabbage, toasted garlic and fish sauce, as well as a ginger salad with shaved carrots and cabbage. The publication also recommended the spicy pickled-mango curry with pork or chicken.
Other menu offerings include coconut curries, tamarind fish and a variety of vegan-friendly tofu dishes. Washingtonian also highlighted Mandalay’s stir-fried noodles topped with spring onion and a fried egg as a comforting option.
