Grammy-winning Kronos Quartet will perform “A Hard Rain” at the Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda on Tuesday, January 26, 2027, in a concert timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the Doomsday Clock.
Strathmore and the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists will co-present the 8 p.m. performance on the same day the latest setting of the Doomsday Clock is announced. Kronos Quartet serves as the Bulletin’s inaugural Doomsday Clock Artist-in-Residence.
Inspired by Bob Dylan’s 1962 song “A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall,” the program combines live chamber music with historical readings and firsthand accounts, including testimony from Hiroshima survivors, Mikhail Gorbachev’s reflections on nuclear negotiations and John F. Kennedy’s “Strategy for Peace” speech.
A free pre-concert discussion, “Hard Rain: Music Against Midnight: Art and the Doomsday Clock,” will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Music Center Lobby. Tickets for the concert are scheduled to go on sale September 23 at 10 a.m.
