The Montgomery County Council will host its annual Youth Town Hall on Tuesday, September 29 at 6pm at the Council Office Building in Rockville.
The event gives students an opportunity to speak directly with Councilmembers about community and public policy issues that affect young people. Students who register and participate will receive two student-service learning hours for advocacy.
“Youth voices and perspectives are an important part of the conversation about our shared future,” Council President Natali Fani-González said. “This town hall creates a space for young people to share their ideas about issues affecting their lives and communities, particularly because decisions made today about climate change, housing, the economy, and technology, for instance, directly define the world young generations will inherit.”
Montgomery County Board of Education Student Member Leul Dawit will begin the question-and-answer portion of the meeting, and additional Montgomery County Public Schools leadership will attend.
A pizza reception for students will begin at 5:30pm, ahead of the 6pm town hall. The event will take place in the third-floor Council Hearing Room at 100 Maryland Avenue in Rockville.
Students who cannot attend in person can participate through Zoom. Registration is required for all students who want to participate and receive the two student-service learning hours.
