Montgomery County’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Sexual Health and Wellness Program, in collaboration with Montgomery County Recreation, will host the free “Fall Into Wellness Health & Wellness Fair” on Saturday, September 19.
The event will take place from 1-6pm at the White Oak Community Recreation Center, located at 1700 April Lane in White Oak, and will connect residents of all ages with local health providers, community organizations and wellness resources.
The fair will offer free or low-cost health screenings, including blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and body mass index screenings, along with HIV and sexually transmitted infection screenings. Resources will also be available for nutrition and fitness, mental health, health insurance, in-home care, youth services, sports, disease prevention and healthy living.
“Events like this are a good way to make sure people have access to information and services that can help them stay healthy,” County Executive Marc Elrich said. “You don’t always know where to go for a screening or who can answer your questions about nutrition, exercise, or mental health. Bringing these resources together in one place makes it easier for residents to get the information they need and take care of themselves and their families.”
Interactive wellness activities, educational demonstrations and family-friendly activities will also be offered throughout the afternoon. Residents are encouraged to arrive early if they plan to participate in screenings and activities.
Free parking will be available at the recreation center. Local health and community organizations, including the Health Betterment Initiative of D.C., Maryland and Virginia, are expected to participate.
