The Montgomery County Council will hold a special commemoration on Tuesday, September 22, at 1 p.m. celebrating the 250th anniversaries of Montgomery County and the United States.
The event will feature County Executive Marc Elrich, former County Executive Isiah “Ike” Leggett, Maryland Secretary of State Susan Lee, Del. Lily Qi, former Councilmember and CSAAC Director Nancy Navarro, Montgomery History Executive Director Matt Logan, Maryland 250 Commission Director Michele W. Johnson and other guests.
The commemoration will include a Council proclamation and a video highlighting ways Montgomery County is marking its 250th anniversary and efforts to share and preserve local history. Montgomery County was founded in 1776.
The event is part of broader commemorations surrounding the 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026. The Maryland 250 Commission was authorized in 2023 to coordinate a statewide observance highlighting Maryland’s history and contributions over the nation’s 250 years.
