A second Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program (VEIP) self-service kiosk is now open at the Gaithersburg VEIP location as Maryland begins expanding its emissions testing kiosk network.
The Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration and Maryland Department of the Environment announced that additional kiosks will be installed at seven locations across the state over the coming months, including a new kiosk at the Silver Spring Vehicle Emissions Testing Station.
Unlike VEIP stations with set operating hours, the self-service kiosks are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Approximately 20% of emissions tests are currently completed at self-service kiosks.
Self-service testing costs $26, compared with $30 for full-service testing. VEIP inspections are required in 14 of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions.
