$900 Million Resort With 175,000-Square-Foot Indoor Water Park Opens Next Month

Kalahari Resorts & Conventions is preparing to open its highly anticipated $900 million Virginia resort next month, bringing one of the country’s largest indoor water park destinations within a relatively short drive of Montgomery County.

The new resort will officially open November 12 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, just off Interstate 95 and approximately 80 miles from central Montgomery County. It will become Kalahari’s fifth U.S. location and its first in the Washington, D.C. region.

The African-inspired resort will feature more than 175,000 square feet of indoor water park attractions, approximately 900 guest suites, a full-service convention center, restaurants, shopping, arcades and additional family entertainment.

The Virginia opening represents a major expansion for the family-owned company, which currently operates resorts in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin; Sandusky, Ohio; Pocono Manor, Pennsylvania; and Round Rock, Texas.

Kalahari Resorts & Conventions was also recently named to TIME’s inaugural list of America’s Best Private Companies 2026, receiving recognition for its workplace culture, employee development and community impact.

Founded more than 25 years ago by Todd and Shari Nelson, Kalahari has grown into one of the country’s best-known indoor water park resort brands. The new Spotsylvania County location is expected to draw visitors from throughout the Washington metropolitan area and East Coast when it opens next month.
