Friends of the Library Marks Banned Books Week in Montgomery County

Friends of the Library, Montgomery County is recognizing Banned Books Week, an annual event supporting the freedom to read.

Established in 1982, Banned Books Week brings together libraries, booksellers, publishers, writers, readers and others around issues involving censorship and access to books. This year’s theme is “Let Books Be. Protect the Freedom to Read.”

In a post recognizing the week, Friends of the Library, Montgomery County said books should remain accessible and uncensored and criticized efforts by organized groups to remove books from libraries, schools and bookstores.

“Books are for everyone. Books should be read. Books should be uncensored,” the organization wrote.
