Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a large barn fire along Laytonsville Road (Route 108) in Laytonsville early Monday morning.
According to MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer, the approximately 100-by-75-foot hay barn was well-involved when firefighters arrived. More than 65 firefighters responded, and the barn is considered a total loss.
The fire has been contained and brought under control, but crews continue to extinguish hot spots and conduct extensive overhaul operations. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Route 108 is shut down or experiencing lane closures between Griffith Road and Sundown Road due to fire department activity. MCFRS crews are expected to remain in the area throughout the morning.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
