Gaithersburg City Council Member Lisa Henderson has been conditionally selected by her colleagues to serve as the city’s next mayor if current Mayor Jud Ashman is elected to the Montgomery County Council.
Ashman is running for the District 3 County Council seat in the November 3 election. If he wins, Henderson is expected to be sworn in as mayor during a special session on November 9 and serve through the November 2027 city election.
Henderson has served on the City Council since 2021 and was Council Vice President from 2022 to 2023. She grew up in Gaithersburg and currently works as a program director for Montgomery County Government.
The city is also preparing to fill the Council seat that would become vacant if Henderson becomes mayor. Fourteen people applied, with seven advancing to interviews. The Council expects to select the new member on October 26, with the individual also expected to be sworn in November 9.
