Lotte Plaza Market is coming to Fox Chapel Center at 19721 Frederick Road in Germantown, the current site of GW Supermarket, according to an announcement from the shopping center.
The announcement marks a return to Germantown for Lotte, which previously operated a location in the community that closed in 2022 and was replaced by New Grand Mart.
Lotte Plaza Market specializes in Asian groceries. According to its website, the company began with a single store on Veirs Mill Road in 1989 and now has a dozen locations across Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, and Florida. The company has stated a goal of opening 50 locations by 2030.
According to the Washington Business Journal, which first reported the news of Lotte’s return to Germantown, the chain will take over the space in April when GW Supermarket‘s lease expires.
