83-Year-Old Man Dies After Being Struck by Pickup Truck Driver at Gas Station

An 83-year-old Silver Spring man has died after being struck by a pickup truck in the parking lot of a Rockville gas station on Friday, October 9.

According to Montgomery County Police, Rockville City Police officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the FreeState gas station in the 500 block of Hungerford Road at approximately 8:36 a.m. for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

The pedestrian, identified as Charles S. Lazar, was found suffering from serious injuries and transported to an area hospital. His condition deteriorated overnight, and he died from his injuries on Saturday, October 10.

A preliminary investigation determined that Lazar was walking north through the parking lot toward his parked vehicle when he was struck by a white 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pulling away from a fuel pump toward Hungerford Road.

Police said the driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment. The Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the fatal collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 240-773-6620.
