Black Lion Café, a family-owned Ethiopian coffee shop with existing locations in Rockville and Silver Spring, is planning to open its third location at Union on Knox in College Park by December, according to a report from The Diamondback.
Black Lion Café specializes in Ethiopian coffee made from beans roasted in-house, along with a selection of teas, sandwiches, paninis and pastries. The business traces its coffee-growing roots back five generations to a family plantation in Harar, Ethiopia, and focuses on serving freshly roasted Ethiopian Arabica coffee. The café currently operates at 8240 Fenton Street in Silver Spring and 9705 Traville Gateway Drive in Rockville.
Oner Abdu Tuku told The Diamondback that the café, originally expected to open in the spring, was delayed by permitting issues, but construction is progressing smoothly and the new location is now on track to open this winter.
