Montgomery College welcomed two new members to its Board of Trustees ahead of the fall 2026 semester: student trustee Lina Mekonnen and Amanda Fuchs Miller, who was appointed by Governor Wes Moore.
Mekonnen, a biological science major who plans to become a physician, serves as president of Aid to Young Mothers and Children (AYMC), a student organization supporting mothers in need. She has received academic honors from Montgomery College and will represent student perspectives in decisions affecting the institution.
Miller, a Bethesda resident, began her six-year term on July 1, 2026. She is president of Seventh Street Strategies, a consulting firm focused on higher education and nonprofit advocacy, and has more than 30 years of government and policy experience.
Miller previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Higher Education Programs at the U.S. Department of Education during the Biden administration. She has also held positions in the U.S. Senate, Department of Justice and White House, and currently teaches at American University.
Montgomery College’s Board of Trustees is the institution’s governing body and consists of 10 members appointed by the governor.
