$500,000 Winning Scratch-Off Ticket Sold at Maryland Gas Station

A Charles County man won $500,000 on a Maryland Lottery scratch-off ticket that was given to him by his business partner during a difficult period for their general contracting business.

According to the Maryland Lottery, the winner and his business partner had experienced several stressful business setbacks when his partner’s wife purchased scratch-off tickets. His partner gave him one of the tickets in an effort to cheer him up. The $20 Gifts of Green scratch-off remained in the winner’s briefcase for some time before he decided to play it. After scratching the ticket, he initially struggled to believe he had won and visited a Lottery retailer to confirm the $500,000 prize.

“At first just a flood of relief,” the winner said. “And then gratitude for the good people I have in my life and this thoughtful gift from my partner.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Kettering BP, located at 10604 Campus Way in Upper Marlboro. The retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the ticket.
