The City of Rockville buried a new time capsule during its annual Rocktobierfest celebration on September 26, with plans to open it in 2076 as part of the nation’s 300th anniversary.
Mayor Monique Ashton and Councilmembers Adam Van Grack, Barry Jackson and Kate Fulton participated in the burial ceremony. The capsule contains items documenting Rockville’s history, memories and messages intended for future generations.
Thousands attended the free Bavarian-themed festival in Rockville Town Center, which featured live music, food, and local breweries.
The burial comes nearly a year after Rockville unearthed a millennium time capsule during Rocktobierfest in October 2025. That capsule was originally buried on January 1, 2001, in Courthouse Square Park and contained mementos documenting life in Rockville at the turn of the century. During the unveiling, Mayor Ashton read a letter written by former Rockville Mayor Rose Krasnow that had been placed inside the capsule.
