Updated to reflect that the pedestrian has died.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) and the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) responded to a collision involving a pedestrian on Monday night in Gaithersburg.
According to public safety reporter Cordell Pugh, a pedestrian was struck by a driver and critically injured on MD-119 Great Seneca Highway near Kentlands Boulevard around 9:15pm. Great Seneca Highway will remain closed for crash reconstruction.
MCPD issued the following at 9:36:PM: “TRAFFIC ADVISORY – A collision has Southbound Great Seneca at Quince Orchard and Southbound Great Seneca at Lakeland shut down. Drivers should seek an alternate route and expect delays.”
A 10:52pm update by MCPD stated that “This collision is being investigated as a pedestrian fatality. The driver of the striking vehicle remained on scene. Roads are closed north and southbound Great Seneca Hwy at Quince Orchard Blvd and north and southbound Great Seneca at Lakeland. Please seek an alternate route.”
