The City of Gaithersburg has announced that in observance of Thanksgiving, city offices and most facilities will be closed on Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29. Full list of closures and notices below.
Per the City of Gaithersburg: “Facility closures are in place Nov. 28 & 29, with exceptions. Thursday’s recycling will be collected on Nov. 30.
- All City facilities are closed.
- The Police Department Administrative Offices are closed. Police patrol will remain on duty. For emergencies please call 911. For non-emergencies, please dial 301-279-8000 for dispatch.
- Recycling scheduled for collection will be collected Saturday, November 30. Bulk pick up is unavailable.
- Loose leaf collection is suspended. All areas will be collected the preceding Monday through Wednesday, weather permitting.
Friday, November 29
- Most City facilities are closed, with the exception of the following facilities:
- Police Department Administrative Offices will open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- The Aquatic Center will open from 5:15 to 8:30 p.m.
- The Arts Barn will open for a scheduled performance.
- Winter Lights Festival opens for the season. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Tickets will not be available at the admission booth. Purchase tickets here.
- The collection of recycled materials will take place as scheduled. Bulk pick up is unavailable.
- Loose leaf collection is suspended. All areas will be collected the preceding Monday through Wednesday, weather permitting.
Recycling Information
The collection of recycled materials for residents whose regular recycling day is Thursday, November 28, 2024, will take place the following Saturday, November 30. Recycling includes newspaper, mixed paper, corrugated cardboard, and commingled materials (which should be separated from brush, branches, grass clippings, leaves & other yard trimmings) picked up by the City’s contractor. Recycling scheduled for Friday, November 29 will be picked up as scheduled.
Loose leaf collection will not take place on November 28 & 29. All areas will be collected the preceding Monday through Wednesday.
On-demand bulk pick up for residents whose regular recycling days are November 28 & 29 will be unavailable. Appointments can be made for the following week using the online form, by e-mailing [email protected], or by calling 301-258-6370.
Regular trash & garbage collection for City residents is handled by private contractors. Please contact your HOA or your private contractor regarding the holiday collection schedule for these materials.
