Man Sentenced to 17 Years for 1981 Sexual Assaults

Marion Pearson, 67, of Durham, NC, was sentenced to 40 years in prison, suspending all but 17 years, for second-degree rape and sexual offense charges stemming from attacks in 1981, and will serve two years of supervised probation and register as a lifetime sex offender.

Pearson, previously convicted of multiple first-degree rapes in North Carolina, had a history of arrests in Maryland for various offenses between 1980 and 1999.

According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, “Today in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, the Honorable Rachel McGuckian sentenced defendant, Marion Pearson, 67, of Durham, NC, to 40 years in prison suspending all but 17 years to serve and two years of supervised probation upon release. The defendant will also be required to register as a sex offender for life.

On October 4, 2024, Pearson pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree rape and one count of second-degree sexual offense for separate attacks on two female victims in April and June of 1981.

Pearson served 22-years in a North Carolina prison for a series of first-degree rapes and was released in 2020. He previously lived in Prince George’s County, MD, and had been arrested several times for assault, indecent exposure, and peeping-tom, between 1980 and 1999.
