New and Coming Soon to Rio in Gaithersburg (Winter 2024)

Here’s a list of restaurants and businesses that have recently opened or are coming soon to Gaithersburg’s Rio.
New: TOUS Les JOURS
TOUS Les JOURS is now open at 1 Grand Corner Ave in Gaithersburg’s Rio Lakefront. TOUS Les JOURS is located in the space that was previously occupied by Corner Bakery, which closed back in February after nearly 25 years in business. The French-Asian Bakery features a variety of breads, pastries, and cakes that are baked in-store daily, as well as a wide selection of coffee/espresso based drinks and teas.

The first TOUS Les JOURS franchise in Montgomery County opened inside of New Grand Mart (13069 Wisteria Dr) in Germantown. Earlier this week, we reported that TOUS Les JOURS will open a third Montgomery County location in Rockville’s Pike Center in 2025. It will be joining Luna Hall and taking the place of the previously planned Buena Onda Baja Taqueria. All three franchises are separately owned.

Coming Soon: Locally Crafted Workshop
Locally Crafted, located at 9 Grand Corner Ave. in Gaithersburg’s Rio Lakefront, has announced its expansion with the upcoming opening of Locally Crafted Workshop. The new space, set to occupy the former Torrid location at 35 Grand Corner Ave., will serve as a dedicated venue for classes, workshops, parties, and community events, while the original retail location will remain open.

Per Locally Crafted on Instagram: “INTRODUCING … Locally Crafted Workshop! We’re so excited to announce that the Locally Crafted empire is expanding. In January, we’re opening a whole new space in @riolakefront just down the block from our current shop (which is staying put, don’t worry!). Locally Crafted Workshop will be a space for workshops, parties and whatever other events we (and you!) can dream up. Since we opened in our new space in May, you’ve been asking about classes and workshops. But even though the current store is absolutely perfect for our retail mission, it’s a bit too small to be a gathering space. So when the opportunity came up for us to take on a big new space devoted just to events, we jumped at it. We brought on a third partner (Becky Sher of Ruth & Dottie), and we’re off and running. We hope you’ll follow us at @createatlocallycrafted for all the details as we prepare for a January opening. But here are a few things we want you to know:

— Classes and workshops. What do you want to learn? Our running list includes resin, cross stitch, crochet, macrame, cookie decorating, watercolor and much, much more. We’ll have offerings for kids, tweens, teens and adults, so we hope there will be something for everyone. We’ll be asking for lots of input in the coming weeks, so start making notes now.

— Parties. Celebrate with us! Kids’ birthday parties, of course, but what about bridal and baby showers? Adult birthdays? We’ll have a large space perfect for those celebrations.

— Events. Here’s where we think this space can really shine. Corporate team-building events, mini pop-up markets, yoga classes, maker meetups, creative co-working — the list goes on and on. The space is large and flexible, and we want to make it exactly what our community needs.

We’ll share more here and at @createatlocallycrafted, and soon on the LCW website. We’re excited and nervous and ambitious, and we can’t wait to show you everything we’ve got planned. 💜💙🩵”

Coming Soon: Koi Sushi
Koi Sushi will be taking the vacant space between Chipotle and Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls. We are currently working to find out information regarding any possible connection between the Koi Sushi restaurant moving into the space and any existing local eatery with Koi in its and will have an update on that for you soon.
