“The urge for a hot cup of coffee put a Montgomery County man in the right place at the right time to find not one but two winning MONOPOLY X100 scratch-offs. The $20 scratch-off from the Maryland Lottery and licensed by Scientific Games, LLC. caught his eye because it was new. The game was on display at the Wawa located at 405 South Frederick Road in Gaithersburg.
“I don’t play much,” said the retired builder, but because the game was new he decided to try his luck. “Normally, I buy two tickets.”
He did so and then followed his play routine, which involves scratching off the prize check area and scanning instant tickets for a win. He saw he won $50 on the first scratch-off. However, when he scanned the second game, the ticket checker revealed a mysterious message about claiming an unstated prize amount.
“I knew it was a winner,” he said, but the question was, how big was his win? The Gaithersburg resident scratched off the entire play area to do some detective work and spotted his $50,000 second-tier win. He’s kept the windfall a secret, sharing his great news with only a few people, and plans to share his newfound fortune with his children.”
