“A Montgomery County woman claimed a $50,000 Powerball prize on the “luckiest” day of the year, St. Patrick’s Day. The winning ticket was from the Oct. 23, 2024 drawing, but the winner had some things going on in her life and had to wait until now to claim the prize.

The Burtonsville player appropriately calling herself “Lucky Lady” for publicity purposes. She’s an occasional player and was out and about when she noticed the PowerballMega Million and Multi-Match jackpots were pretty high. She stopped at Laurel Park Liquor and Deli at 13600 Baltimore Avenue in Laurel and bought a few tickets. The big winner realized her win early the next morning while checking her tickets online.

“I had to go over the numbers three or four times to make sure I was seeing it correctly,” “Lucky Lady” said.  She was correct. The retired federal government employee matched four white balls and the red Powerball for a $50,000 third-tier prize.

She immediately called her daughter, who accompanied her to claim the ticket, to tell her about her good fortune.

“Mind you it was early and she woke me up,” said the winner’s daughter. “She’s whispering in the phone, “I won”.”

“Lucky Lady” claimed the prize on St. Patrick’s Day, a day some would say, is the luckiest day of the year. When speaking to Lottery Officials, she said she has no immediate plans for her $50,000 win. For now, she said, it’s going in the bank.

Meanwhile, the jackpots are rising once again. The Powerball jackpot for March 19 has an estimated annuity value of $416 million and Mega Millions for March 18 has an estimated annuity value of $301 million.”
