An event celebrating what would have been Mattie J.T. Stepanek’s 35th birthday will take place on Thursday, July 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. at World of Beer in Rockville, MD, featuring free entertainment, activities, and a portion of food and drink sales benefiting the Mattie J.T. Stepanek Foundation.
Per the City of Rockville: Celebrate the 35th birthday of Mattie J.T. Stepanek, the late teen poet and peace activist from Rockville, with an evening of food and fun.
The free event includes indoor and outdoor seating, family fun and entertainment, including:
- Appearances by Mattie’s mom, Jeni Stepanek, also known as “Mama Peace;” WTOP’s Jimmy Alexander and NBC4’s Tommy McFly.
- Irish/folk music by The Blarney Bench.
- Singer-songwriter Suzanne Brindamour, who has set Mattie’s poetry to music.
- Comedian Stephanie Goldklang.
- The ZamDancers.
- Face painting.
- Peace activities.
- An international livestream toast with neighbors in Canada, New York and more.
