Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings, a New York-based, Michelin-recommended restaurant, will open on Wednesday, October 1 at Westfield Montgomery in Bethesda. The new location brings Shanghainese dim sum and Jiangsu-Zhejiang cuisine to the mall’s dining terrace in the former Urban Plates space, next to Shake Shack.
The menu features a wide selection of soup dumplings, including pork, chicken, and crab & pork, as well as specialty variations with truffle, scallop, ham, and abalone. Diners can try samplers like the Lucky Six and Three Treasures, along with cold dishes such as Chicken in Wine Sauce, noodle favorites like Braised Beef Noodle Soup, rice and rice cake options, soups, and desserts including Ube Red Bean Bao.
Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings, which first opened in Flushing, New York in 2006, has become synonymous with authentic Southern Chinese cuisine and is frequently featured in the Michelin Guide. Its Westfield Montgomery opening marks the restaurant’s continued expansion in the region, with another location coming soon to National Harbor.
Other restaurants and retailers opening soon at the mall include Maman Joon, which will move into the former Brio’s Chicken and Tara Thai space with a menu of kabobs, sandwiches, platters, and other Persian specialties. Kami Ramen will open next to Cinnabon, offering traditional Japanese ramen in a casual setting. Arc’teryx, the outdoor apparel and gear brand known for its technical outerwear, is expected to open this fall. Hollister Co. is also making its return to Montgomery Mall after nearly a decade, though an opening date has not been announced. In addition, Warby Parker will bring its eyewear and eye exam services to the Nordstrom wing later this fall, and Wetzel’s Pretzels is preparing for a fall debut with its menu of classic pretzels and snack items.
