Six Flags Permanently Closes Only Maryland Location Next Month

We are now less than a month away from Maryland’s only Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor (13710 Central Ave, Bowie, MD 20721) closing permanently after the 2025 season.

The parks’ final operating day will be Sunday, November 2, 2025, as Six Flags Entertainment Corporation announced plans to close the parks and market the 500-acre property for redevelopment. In a news release, the company cited a strategic realignment of its portfolio and has engaged CBRE to oversee the sale, with all 2025 tickets and passes still valid for the final season.

In July 2024, Cedar Fair, the owner of Kings Dominion, and Six Flags Entertainment Corporation merged into one company.

Six Flags America canceled its annual Fright Fest event for 2025 and is instead hosting Kids Boo Fest, a family-focused, daytime celebration. The decision was made as part of the park’s modified fall schedule leading into its permanent closure.  The park is currently open Saturdays 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Statement from Six Flags

“As part of our comprehensive review of our park portfolio, we have determined that Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor are not a strategic fit with the company’s long-term growth plan,” said Six Flags President & CEO Richard A. Zimmerman. “After reviewing a number of options, we believe that marketing the property for redevelopment will generate the highest value and return on investment.”

Zimmerman added, “This was a difficult decision, and we recognize the impact it will have on our Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor park associates and guests. We are grateful to our park associates who work hard to create lifelong memories, and this final season will be an opportunity to celebrate the decades of fun guests have enjoyed at the property.”
