The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has released additional information regarding a fatal single-vehicle collision that occurred at 9:57 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, on Cherry Hill Road near Fairland.
According to MCPD, “the decedent has been identified as 26-year-old Mariama Samateh of Silver Spring. 3rd District officers and Fire Rescue personnel responded to Cherry Hill Road near O’Fallon Street for the report of a collision with injuries. Upon arrival, responders located a blue 2007 Toyota Avalon that had overturned with the driver entrapped. Fire Rescue extricated the driver, and life-saving measures were attempted. Samateh was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that Samateh was traveling westbound on Cherry Hill Road when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned. This remains an active investigation, and it may take several weeks or longer for CRU to complete its investigation.
