Toys“R”Us will open its new 7,000 square-foot flagship store at Arundel Mills in Hanover, MD on Wednesday, November 26. The store will be located inside the mall across from T.J. Maxx.
The return of a flagship Toys“R”Us to Maryland is especially meaningful for local families. The nation’s very first Toys“R”Us opened in Rockville in 1957, laying the foundation for what would become one of the most recognizable toy retailers in the world. Now, nearly 70 years later, the brand is preparing to launch a major new store in the state during the peak of holiday shopping season.
This flagship opening is part of Toys“R”Us’ nationwide expansion announced in October, which includes both permanent flagship stores and seasonal holiday shops in partnership with Go! Retail Group. Maryland is seeing both forms of the rollout, with a temporary Toys“R”Us Holiday Shop already open at The Mall in Columbia.
“This holiday marks an important step in our expansion strategy for the Toys“R”Us brand,” said Gideon Schlessinger, CEO of Go! Retail Group. “Through our flagship stores, we are strengthening our presence while meeting consumer demand during the most important season of the year.”
“Toys“R”Us is an iconic brand that so many of us grew up with, and we’re thrilled to see those memories come full circle as parents and grandparents share that magic with a new generation,” said Gene Condon, General Manager at Arundel Mills. “This new store will be a standout addition to our lineup and a destination for families just in time for the holiday season.”
