Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews responded Tuesday evening to a vehicle fire in the 20800 block of Gaelic Court, off Century Boulevard in Germantown, that spread to a nearby end-unit townhouse and caused significant damage.
According to MCFRS officials, the fire originated from a vehicle parked outside the home. Flames ignited combustible materials on the exterior of the building and extended through three levels of the structure, prompting a second alarm for additional resources. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire conditions and rescued one adult resident who was trapped on a rear deck and unable to exit safely.
All residents were accounted for and uninjured. Two adults and one child were displaced as a result of the fire, and the American Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance. Fire officials estimate the total damage at approximately $300,000. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, originating from the vehicle.
