Governor Wes Moore: “The President is Lying to the Public”

Maryland Governor Wes Moore issued a statement responding to comments from President Donald Trump regarding responsibility for the Potomac Interceptor sewage pipe leak.

Moore said the federal government, not the state, has been responsible for the pipeline for more than a century and noted that it is located on federal land. He also stated that Maryland agencies and DC Water provided updates on cleanup efforts during a two-hour legislative hearing, and that officials from United States Environmental Protection Agency were invited but did not attend.

The governor added that Maryland officials responded within hours of the leak to help coordinate the cleanup and protect public health. Moore emphasized that the state has continued to work with regional partners and local leaders to address the situation and manage the environmental impact. He said Maryland remains committed to cooperation and oversight as response efforts continue.
